Another Candidate In the First District?
Word on the street today is we have another candidate running to try and replace Councilman Frank DiCicco.
From what I've heard, South Philadelphia lawyer Henry Lewandowski (Vice President Whitman Civic Association) is circulating petitions for a run in the first district.
Lewandowski is known to be quite close with Local 98 Business Manager John Dougherty. After all, the Pennsport Civic Assoc. offices (where Dougherty is President) are located in the same building on Snyder Avenue as Lewandowski's law office.
If true, what does this mean for the First District race? Does this mean Local 98 will not be supporting Anastasio this time? Anybody else hear about this?
I obviously don't have a link to a story about this as it was all hearsay, I just thought it was interesting, and we'll see if it actually pans out.

I heard about this a while
I heard about this a while back. I looked him up on the internet, it seems this is the guy.
I also found him quoted here; included in a letter to the editor here.
It seems, based on the above and geography, he is likely Doc's guy. But, it's not entirely clear.
Supporting Michael Nutter in 2007!
Wow!
Did anyone read that Northeast Times letter? If it's accurate, Henry Lewandowski represented Constitution Party mayoral candidate John P. McDermott. McDermott is one of the most right-wing politicians in Philadelphia. To give you some idea of his politics, he thinks John Perzel is too far to the left.
That probably won't help Lewandowskii in the Democratic primary.

Ugh.
The only purpose for a third candidate in the race would be to ensure that DiCicco wins. Now, why would Doc want that?
Whole Foods Saturday
The candidate had folks outside of Whole Foods on Saturday getting petitions signed. Young guys, not from the area--I'd bet they were 98 guys.
Whole Foods
Is this a secret admission that you shop at Whole Foods?

I was working
I was getting petition signatures myself for Fattah.
I am too poor to shop there. We're a Trader Joe's family.
Unless that 3rd candidate
Unless that 3rd candidate was from the Pennsport/Whitman area, an area that is supposed to be strong for DiCicco. This all seems real strange to me still so we'll see.
Thanks for the info!
I've added this to my list of 2007 City Council candidates. If you find out about a Web site or other campaign information, please let us know!
