Phila. Inquirer: A Hard RW Paper Emerges II

A couple of weeks ago, I blogged on Tierney's purchase of the Philadelphia Inquirer & the right wing tilt it has taken since. For those of you not familar with Tierney, he is a long time Republican Party activist, a large fund raiser in Republican circles and is on the far right of the Party. Tierney largely opposes government involvement in the economy & is a social conservative seeking to advance the conservative social agenda, exs. outlaw abortion, eliminating the separation between religion & public education etc.

Phila. Inquirer: A Hard RW Paper Emerges

It was with extreme trepidation that I read about Tierney's takeover of the Philadelphia Inquirer (PI) about a year ago. PI hasn't been a good paper for quite a while. But, at least, it kept us informed about matters in the Philly region, mostly in an even handed way, when it came to state & local politics.

Tierney's takeover set off all sorts of alarm bells. He is very right wing, including not only a tilt toward laissez faire - virtually no government interference in the workings of the marketplace but, atypically for this region of the country, also a proponent of the RW social agenda, with the latter coming out of Tierney's rigid Catholic background. Tierney, who has been a major player in Republican politics as a campaign contributor, made his 100s of millions in the field of PR.
