Brian Grady announced his candidacy for District Attorney today from the Northwest Philadelphia neighborhood where he grew up. Grady comes into the event carrying the endorsements and public support from Maureen Faulkner, wife of slain Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner and former Attorney General candidate Jim Eisenhower. Grady, a Democrat, made his announcement in front of the Dunkin Donuts where Philadelphia police officer Charles Cassidy was fatally shot in 2007; Grady and Cassidy were friends and former neighbors.
“What our criminal justice system needs right now is strong, just leadership. That is why I’m running for DA. I have the experience, integrity, and leadership ability necessary to make our city safe again.” said Grady.
As District Attorney, Grady vowed to focus on keeping violent criminals off Philadelphia streets. Grady promised to better ensure the safety of all Philadelphians by drawing on his vast experience as a criminal trial attorney to mount a united effort among the various government agencies that make up the criminal justice system. He also emphasized his commitment to fiscal responsibility, as the City faces another billion-dollar shortfall over the next five years.
Grady staunchly pledged to fight witness intimidation and return Philadelphia’s neighborhoods to their residents. "Citizens have more fear of criminals than they have confidence in the justice system. This must change."
Grady served as a Philadelphia Assistant District Attorney for five years before entering private practice in 1998. Grady is a 1993 graduate of the University of Notre Dame Law School and received his BA in Economics from La Salle University and his diploma from La Salle College High School. He currently lives in Roxborough with his wife and four children.

Grady was suspended for punching a defense attorney and threatening a judge in 1999.
Grady's Response in Clout
This was in Clout a few months ago and I think Grady addresses it pretty well, the quote is below:
Grady says that the other guy hit him first, but not as hard. It cost him $2,500 and a six-month suspension from practicing law.
He admits that he made a mistake. "You can't go around punching people out," Grady told Clout. But, he promised, "it's the same passion you'll see out of me as D.A."
