Candidate Disclosures on Young Philly Politics
As the campaign season draws near, more and more people will be posting on here about elections. This is a great thing. I hope campaign staff, volunteers and the candidates themselves want to show all of us why they think they should have the support of progressives. To that end, however, I think we need to formalize what is being expected of people, in terms of disclosure.
There are two main categories of people, but the one I am most concerned about are people who have some sort of monetary interest in campaigns. In other words, if you have been paid, are being paid, or will be paid by a campaign or a candidate (including some future promised job), you have to disclose it. How- when you write a post or a comment, you can simply say so at the bottom of your post. (If you are in a conversation with someone, you do not have to keep repeating it. But once a thread is appropriate.) Also, in your profile, you should say who you are working for. We are all adults here, and we welcome all voices. But, again, we have to know where you are coming from.
The second group of people are volunteers. First, let me say that if you come on to YPP and say, "I am supporting candidate x, and believe in him/her enough to volunteer," then in my eyes you get more credibility, not less. I wish that everyone who read or wrote on YPP was out there volunteering for someone they believed in. It is a wonderful thing to do. That said, you should still mention that you are working for the campaign, just so we all know where each other stands.
That is about it. If Adam B., someone who has thought more about this than anyone in the world, wants to chime in, I would welcome it. But, at this pont, that is where we stand. Basically, tell us about yourself.

No, that's about it.
The draft final rules for political activity online that the FEC will vote on tomorrow explicitly considered and rejected the idea of requiring such a duty as a matter of law, but it's smart both as a matter of ethics and politics.
Credibility is a tenuous thing online, and it's built through honesty. If you get caught -- and you will get caught, especially in a small community like this -- it only hurts both you and your candidate.
For what it's worth, I volunteer for Patrick Murphy (and likely will for my neighbor Anne Dicker), though nothing I've said or will say about either online will be based on anything other than my own opinion, based on my own research and analysis.
Just to reiterate...
I, like Adam B, have done volunteer work for the Murphy campaign (which I represented in my profile and on Part 1 of my series) but I have not received one cent from them nor do I plan to.
I don't live in the district any longer, though I gre up there and my family still lives there, so I care very deeply about the future of its representation, which is why I am a supporter fo Murphy and very worried about Andy Warren.
Just like Adam B said, whatever I write on this or another blog is based on my own research, done on my own time, at my own expense.
Oh and I AM NOT JOSH NANBERG.
Roll Call !!!!!
BucksCountyDem will be helping a handful of candidates take back Bucks County from the Elephant in 2006. Specifically; Paul Lang for state senate (www. electlang.com), Murphy, and Chris King for PA State Rep. I’m sure everyone knows about the first two.
Chris King is a dynamic young progressive who is going to take back the 142nd district from entrenched Repub incumbent Matt Wright. Wright is a do nothing, pay raise voting incumbent who won a long time ago when he inherited the name rec and therefore the seat from his father. Chris ran for this seat back in 2004 when he was around 25 (don’t know exact age). He entered the race very late when the existing Dem dropped out. Despite This late entry and his young age he managed to run a close race. This time around he will finish what started in 2004.
But don’t worry, I am not a paid staffer or a Blog hack for any one campaign, so you will get real posts from me.
Dougherty Rumors
Doeas anyone have any information on the alleged rift between Party Treasurer and Local 98 head John Dougherty and Congressman Brady, Mayor Street, Carol Cambell, and Jon Saidel.
I am sure there are tons of rumors out there.
I just wonder if the rift is as big as the newspapers say it is - what effect it may have on the upcoming major elections for Governor and Senate come November. The electricians and Dougherty run what is probably the best G.O.T.V. operation in the city.
I would love to hear some opinions on the rift, the inside details, and the long term efffects and outcomes.
Where?
Did the "Brady in Dougherty Out" thread go?
It is still on the front
It is still on the front page. However, I think we have really had our fill of the IBEW fights for a while.
