How low will Knox go?

We've all seen Knox's lit and signs that try and woo a certain "group". Nothing wrong with that, all candidates do to some degree.

However, his lit along 2 street today that said that Tom is a true catholic while Nutter is a fake catholic...is just wrong. I mean seriously, at what lengths is this guy gonna go? To lit drop a heavily Catholic neighborhood and slander another candidate's spiritual beliefs is just absurd.

He keeps spiraling lower and lower....

wrong religion

isn't Nutter a Baptist?

yea

But the lit said something like Nutter was only Catholic because it was convient for him. Meanwhile, Knox goes to church every sunday and "is a decent and moral man".

Nutter and Catholicism

From Inquirer, April 29
http://www.philly.com/inquirer/special/mayors_race/20070429_Faith_and_th...

Like Fattah, Nutter made a journey from his childhood faith to one of his own choosing.

Although he was "was born and raised Catholic" and graduated from St. Joseph's Preparatory School, "some of the fundamentals of Roman Catholicism became of concern to me," he said in an interview. These included the Catholic Church's opposition "to abortion, gay rights and birth control."

Nutter drifted out of Catholicism in his early 20s, but "started to reconnect" when he began campaigning for city politicians and found himself visiting "church, church, church."

He was at Mount Carmel Baptist Church on the Sunday after 1985 MOVE bombing. He "so liked the message" of its pastor, the Rev. Albert F. Campbell, that he became a member. "It just felt like home."

Sundays find him "sometimes" at Mount Carmel - where Fattah also belongs - but some days he attends his wife's Episcopal church, or hanging out at home with her and his young daughter, doing "family time."

Despite his principled departure from Catholicism, Nutter said, he remains grateful to the Jesuit priests of St. Joseph's Prep for teaching him to be a "critical thinker" and a "man for others."

Supporting Michael Nutter for Mayor

Mike Nutter is a St. Joes Prep Grad

Knox is no Bloomberg

Knox keeps saying he is like Bloomberg and Corzine. No way! Bloomberg and Corzine made their money off rich people and helped them get richer. Knox made his money off poor people and made them poorer.
In his insurance business he denied sick people emergency treatment thereby making them sicker.
Knox is the most ethically and morally challenged candidate in this race. His deal with Blackwell and support by Tommy Doc signifies he has no real intention of changing Philadelphia politics. Knox may throw the bums out, but my fear is we'll have bigger ones in their place.

All indications are this is a Nutter Knox race. make your vote count. Vote Nutter.

The Full BS

"HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!"

A quick update for all Catholics on this beautiful Mother's Day 2007! Remember that Democrat Tom Knox is a practicing Catholic.

Tom regularly attends Sunday mass at St. Patrick's on South 20th Street and is a decent and moral man. And, as you heard in the recent KYW debate, Tom is the only candidate for mayor who supports Catholic school vouchers.

Michael Nutter? He was Catholic when it was convenient for him, so he could get a quality Catholic eduacation. Now? He quietly left the Catholic Church to become a Baptist, probably because his polls told him it would be a smart move.

Bob Brady? He admitted that he never attends mass.

There is only on true, practicing Catholic in this Democratic Primary.

TOM KNOX Push Button #59.

Are we in Belfast?

...because that is some DELICIOUS sectarianism right there.

I could go through the usual motions, mention how this reeks of desperation, etc., etc. - but it's not particularly useful to do so. The fact is, there's a reasonable chance that Tom Knox could win the mayoral election. And a better-than-reasonable chance that he'd be an incompetent and unethical mayor, who would push the party toward a set of leaders who are worse than the ones we currently have. This goes without saying that he's proven himself more than willing to say and do anything to get elected. It is absolutely necessary that we don't let this guy become mayor.

It doesn't make me feel good to bring this up, but Knox's latest attack mailings in my neighborhoods promote Fattah as a solid second choice. I'd imagine there's a reason for that.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

Its first because its the most important. I cannot believe that in 2007 we are arguing that a candidates religion is this important

Amen

Amen, bro. We agree on this.

I couldn't agree more. But,

I couldn't agree more. But, even in 2007 religion is an issue.

Just this weekend, when reading an article about Mit Romney and his "Morman" problem, there was a citation to the speach Kennedy gave related to being Catholic and relations with Rome. Many believe that, had Kennedy not have said those words, he would have lost.

Now, Knox is making an issue out of the opposite--that someone doesn't practice. I didn't know we were voting for the leadership of Opus Dei, Tom.

It's just another cheap shot--and one that frustrates the hell out of me.

Not that it matters, how many Catholics in Philadelphia actually practice their faith on a regular basis? My guess--based on my experiences being raised Catholic, not all that many.

Heh

I haven't found anything indicating that Nutter was ever a practicing Catholic. It's not an admission prereq for The Prep. I'm pretty sure there's not even a tuition break for Catholics there.

In light of the Pope's recent public statement suggesting excommunication for pro-choice politicians, perhaps the beneficiary of this lit piece would like to inform Democratic primary voters whether he holds the "true, practicing Catholic" position on issues such as abortion, gay marriage, etc.

Hmmm

I live on 2 Street, but above Washington, so I'm guessing that's how I missed this one. We've just got a bunch of "Nutter is corrupt" bullshit fliers.

My favorite today, though, is from Kenney/Greenlee, which is just rife with typos. The plural of "casino" is not "casino's", and our Governor's name is not "Gov. Ed. Redenll".

We only got direct mail

and a Nutter door knocker in Logan Square. Dunno what that means, except that they assume we've already decided.
