Mayor Nutter does direct actions on tax deadbeats

From this morning's Inqy, by Jeff Shields:

Robert Gamburg, one of three lawyers at 121 S. Broad St. who owe the city a total of $348,000 in business privilege taxes, didn't like that Nutter chose to shame him with a news conference outside his building.

Nutter called the conference for 2 p.m. yesterday to show the measures he would take to embarrass delinquent taxpayers.

Nutter held a similar news conference in November, when he told those who owed more than $50,000 that he would be coming after them. Nutter said the city has collected $2.5 million in delinquent taxes in that effort.

Is it just me, or is it sorta like hizzoner is doing direct actions?

I have to say: pretty sweet. High-five, Mayor Nutter! I wish more politicians with the bully pulpit would take the fight straight to offenders.

OK, for your next trick, go stand in front of Jim Gerlach's office and tell him to get behind Obama's plan to give healthcare to everyone.

And how dumb was Gamburg?

Nothing against lawyers, but sheesh, what's that old saw? A lawyer who represents himself has a fool for a client?

Good for Nutter. Shame on previous administrations for not stopping these thefts from the public treasury when they started.

The move was dumb

Other than arguing against being singled out to be publicly shamed, what ground does he have to complain?

The City needs to go after businesses that haven't paid their taxes on time. There is no excuse for this. I'm all for fostering an environment that is business friendly, but those who don't play by the rules need to be brought back in line.

Right on!

He should have told me, we would been there we a check for Gamburg to sign.

Did he chant,"The people united, shall never be defeated"

I was typing while you posted this, so if there is someway combining these threads. . .

you can post it as a comment here

But if not, its fine.

good for nutter!

I am second to none when it comes to criticizing the mayor, but this is an awesome move on his part. Mayor Nutter if you're reading this GOOD ON YOU for doing this. Use that bully pulpit and shame those deadbeats into paying back what they owe. I hope you embarrass a deadbeat every day!

now how's about getting a surrogate to show up at the linc to get Lurie the Billionaire to pay up the $8 million his team owes us.

Lurie needs to stop neglecting accounts payable

I've heard that Lurie has a bad habit of not paying those who his organization owes money. While I like how the Eagles have come to be consistently successful under him, I don't like the way he does business outside of football. And don't get me started on them not retaining Dawkins!
