Merry Christmas!

Before I head to my parents to get some brand spanking new socks, I just wanted to wish everyone out there a Merry Christmas.

And, since we truly are the Simpsons generation, I think this blast from the past is appropriate:

And, for all the Hebrews out there, we know who rules the town tonight:

Merry Christmas!

One correction to "Christmastime for the Jews"

If I'm going go cruise the streets blasting Jewish music, it wouldn't be Barbara Streisand. I'd go w/The Ramones, Beastie Boys, + (Pre-Sammy Hagar) Van Halen.

Christmas Music Contest

I'd play The Clash or Klezmatics.

Speaking of which, here is a Christmas music contest.

I saw the first concert The Clash played in the United States, at the Harvard Square Theater. I don't remember when i was but probably 1978.

The warm-up act was Bo Diddley.

A beautiful no-prize for the first person to guess the first song The Clash played in their first concert in America.

I can see it,

Marc rocking out, with a Jewfro the size of a small dog.

How about Father Christmas:

First Clash song

I'm so Bored With U.S.A.

That's It

Fifteen minutes off the plane and a limo ride from Logan--the concert started two hours late--and they were already bored.

I was wondering if any under forty-five year olds would know.

Jewish rock Stars

I would take Lou Reed, Mike Bloomfield and Bobby Zimmerman, Al Kooper, Leslie West, Carol King but please no Billy Joel or Barry manilow

Don't forget

Marianne Faithful, all of J. Geils except J, Robbie Robertson, half of Jefferson Airplane, Kinky Friedman, Mama Cass (who did not die choking on a ham sandwich), half of both Phish and Country Joe the Fish, Steely Dan, and the Knack (Sharona, too).

And Richard Hell who was the bassist in one of my favorite bands on the Bowery, Television.

But not Beanie Siegel.

Jews Who Rock

I finally got to meet Zal Yanovsky about a year before he died. Mentioned the books Jews Who Rock and Zally gave the right on salute when I mentioned his name in it.

Don't forget Fleetwood Mac was started by Peter Green. Totally different band from the more famous version despite sharing the rhythm section.

How about Leslie Gore and Laura Nyro too?
