Help Recruit More Barbarians to Storm the Gate
Part of my own overarching goal for Philadelphia politics, as I have said many times before, is to get public funding of elections. This would not only get money out of the political process, it would open the door for ordinary citizens to run for office. In an ideal world, there is no reason why an everyday Philadelphian should not think about running for Committee person, State Rep, or City Council. The more everyday people in City offices and the party apparatus, the better.
To that end, the Committee of Seventy is leading a charge to let all Philadelphians know why they themselves should get involved, and potentially even run for office.
From Seventy:
The Committee of Seventy has made a commitment to getting the word out onhow and why to run for office in May. There's going to be an effort to poster the whole city with informative flyers from Seventy during five three-hour shifts (plus two SEPTA shifts) this Friday (Jan 20th) through Tuesday.
We'll definitely need all the help we can get. Please visit http://www.seventy.org/empoweringcitizens/runforoffice/flyering to sign up, and encourage others to do so.
Get out there if you can, and help more of us barbarians storm the gate.
