PA Zogby Poll

He's not well-known. His name sounds like Pinocchio. He's a teacher. He doesn't have money... All of those things have been said about my candidate for US Senate Chuck Pennacchio. Well, fuck that shit.

OpEdNews.com commissioned Zogby International [the biggest pollster there is] to poll Pennsylvanians about the issues at stake. The Senate race, Alito, paper ballots, W, the War... The results are in and the analysis has begun.

The Santorum Casey race: When people find out about candidate positions on key issues Casey plummets from a twelve point lead to a dead heat, with a non-significant two point lead.

Santorum loses when matched with any of the democratic candidates. Both of the self identified progressive democratic candidates draw higher percentages than Casey, with Pennacchio having the largest percentage of votes against Santorum, at a not quite significant 4.4 points higher than Casey

. Casey, at non-significant levels, actually gets MORE votes from Republicans once they find out more about him and Santorum.

[emphasis added]

There's goes that whole name recognition thing. And this more than reinforces Chuck's "viability" and "electability" two words I loathe, but some people like to use. People will vote for Chuck Pennacchio.

The poll found that an overwhelming number of respondents want some sort of paper record of their votes whether it be in the form of paper receipts or sticking with lever machines.

And on the national issue of Presidential wiretapping, respondents said that if W is found guilty of violating the law by wiretapping American citizens, 53.7% said they agree that he should be impeached.

This is only a preliminary analysis, there's a shitload of data go to through and more findings will be released by OpEdNews.com in the next few days.

If your excuse in not backing Chuck was that he had no name recognition, you no longer have an excuse. If your excuse in not backing Chuck was that he has no money, open up your wallets and give it to him, he's WINNING IN A HEAD TO HEAD POLL AGAINST RICK SANTORUM. If your excuse in not backign Chuck is that he's a teacher, well, he's a damn professor of US History, we need more people with that kind of background serving us in government. If your excuse in not backing Chuck was that his name sounds too much like Pinocchio, well, a friend of mine told me that it means "lucky" and penacho, the root of Pennacchio's name means "pen feather / quill" so don't sweat it.

This is great news for the Pennacchio campaign. Spread the word. Learn more about Pennacchio on his website. You can find his stances on the issues here.

Lets hear more

Albert-

Can you let us know the methodology that was used? Was this an online survey? Zogby's online surveys have been awful, his phone polls better. (I am pretty sure he used those online polls to predict Kerry wins in VA and OH.) Anyway, what is the methodology? If this is to people who actively signed up at Zogby, I do not think it represents any sort of legitimate sample. At least two Pennacchio supporters at DKos said they received the poll. That alone makes it seem at least a little suspicious.

What you address though, does not allay concerns about name recognition, it shows how important that recognition is. The only Casey v Pennacchio poll I have seen shows him losing by about 60 or 70 points. Now, you can argue, and probably argue reasonably well, that if this was simply a match up of positions, that Pennacchio would win a Democratic primary. But, that is not what an election is, right? I wish it was. It isn't. It is about getting a message you think can sell to as many voters as possible. Virtually no one, outside of the limited world that we inhabit, knows who Chuck Pennacchio is.

Joe Hoeffel campaigned with millions of dollars, and his name recognition still is terrible. How will voters find out about Chuck, when he has so little money? How does he plan to change that? We are what, 5 months away? When does Chuck plan to go on TV? How does he get his name ID out of the ten percent range?

I am far from happy that PA might have a Ben Nelson as its Senator. But, as I said yesterday, and which you never answered, having good positions or being a good Senator, is not, and has never been the sole quality that gets people elected. I think you have a wonderful moral compass, and you would vote the right way all the time. Would you expect to win a Senate race without the ability to massively educate PA residents about what you stand for?

I don't know who I am voting for in the primary, although Casey certainly makes me want to lodge a distinct protest. But when this election is over, I will certainly tell you that I am casting a vote for whomever the Democrat is, because the most Conservative Democrat is more liberal than the most liberal Republican, and is still a vote for Hary Reid as majority leader. And, Santorum is certainly not the most liberal Republican.

Albert, I know you don't like Casey. But, are you, as Chuck and Tim initially promised, going to close ranks if you dont win, and help eveyrone get rid of Santorum?

statistics

There is no such thing as "sort of significant" or "not quite significant." Unless I am forgetting my stats classes, something is either significant or not, period.

I don't know who I am voting

I don't know who I am voting for in the primary, although Casey certainly makes me want to lodge a distinct protest.

Then why don't you? I don't understand what's holding you back, it's really rediculous. Why don't you start helping massively educate the populace? Do some educating right here in Philly where you're most concerned. There are too many Casey apologists here. Educate them Dan.

I believe it was a Zogby Interactive poll. More info on this method of polling here. These are the same methods that Zogby's been using while polling Santorum v Casey in the past.

Let's see which issues where Casey ends up on the other side of the aisle:
*Choice - he wants to overturn Roe v Wade
*Judge Samuel Alito
*Cheif Justice John Roberts
*Withdrawal from Iraq
*Embryonic Stem Cell Research
*Separation of Church & State

And issues that are more right than left:
*Does not support universal Healthcare
*Does not support a living wage [but does want an increase in min. wage]
*Does not support right for gays to adopt children
*Against gun safety laws [not talking about banning guns, but things like child safety locks that even the NRA supports]

Chuck Pennacchio's stances:
*Pro Choice
*Against Alito
*Against Roberts
*Anti-war
*Pro withdrawal with a timetable
*Pro embryonic stem cell research
*Pro separation of church and state
*Supports universal healthcare
*Supports a living wage
*Suports the right for gays to adopt
*Pro gun safety laws

I'm not voting for a fuckwad who stands for almost nothing I stand for.

their "characterization of the candidates' stances" are very thin, and leave out such divisive issues as gay rights and gun control, which play a bit differently in other parts of the state. I think we need to wait to hear more before dismissing the differences between Casey and the progressives . . .

Why dont I?

Because there are two candidates, who, until they show me something different, are protest candidates. I don't see meaningful choices in two guys who each have name recognition of about zero.

As far as me spreading the word, I think readers of this blog have heard me talk about the candidates many times. Hell, one of them even came to one of our happy hours. The problem is that our blog power is limited, especially in relation to a statewide contest that Chuck himself said he needed at least 2 million dollars to win. Where is that money coming from?

And, whether it is holding your nose, or whatever, d o you honestly think that PA or the US is in better shape with Santorum? If not, I think it is absurd not to vote against him.

And, Albert, again, I think you have great views. If you announced a Senate candidacy, and really really wanted it, do you think you would be taken seriously? Do you think you would have a shot to win?

And

Zogby internet polls are terrible.

And, although the idea of blo

And, although the idea of bloggers commissioning polls is clear, it should also be clear that Op-ed news is a big Chuck supporter, so, the results should be taken with a grain of salt.
