Oct. 16: Statewide Conference on the Marcellus Shale

You are invited: a conference for community groups, activists, and homeowners who are concerned about effects of drilling in the Marcellus Shale, and particularly what the effects would be on Philadelphia's drinking water supply, urban gardens, forests, parks, and rivers.

Penn's Woods and the Gas Rush
Saturday, October 16, 2010
11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Radisson Hotel Harrisburg, 1150 Camp Hill Bypass, Camp Hill, PA 17011
Open to the public

The lack of regulation and oversight on natural gas drilling has left us with little protection against the potential dangers of hydraulic fracturing (fracking) to extract natural gas from the Marcellus Shale in our state. Penn Action and Conservation PA are convening this conference so that we can share knowledge and learn how to make our individual and collective voices heard in the Marcellus Shale debate.

Whether your concern is about water, or game, or your lease or the state park system or the impact of the trucks and explosions...whether you live in Bradford County or downtown Pittsburgh, you should be here to ensure that decisions on drilling respect the will of the people of Pennsylvania.

Why Should I Come?
Gas companies in PA have given more than $8 million in campaign contributions to politicians since the beginning of the gas rush; we must ensure that our voices are heard. Together we will build coalitions and learn strategies and tactics for how we can advocate for our own safety.

Who Should Come?
Community and organization leaders, activists, concerned individuals. People have been approached about a lease. Republicans, Democrats, Independents...home and business owners, farmers, hunters and fishermen...anyone who cares about protecting our property rights and keeping poison out of our air, land, and water.

Maybe it goes without saying

But since time is short, we could use your help spreading the word to interested parties in Philly and the burbs.

Thank you!
