Paging Johnny Doc

From today's Daily News we learn that Johnny Doc is ready to leave the city's committee's leadership:

A lot of people have come to me and asked me to run," Dougherty said. But Dougherty said he had become "kind of frustrated" with the party's direction. Dougherty said he felt the party should embrace more young, progressive activists and upgrade its computers and other technology.

Well, Dan and I missed the "blogger meeting" with Fumo and I fear it's because Vince did not have our contact info. So, Mr. Dougherty, so me and lots of other young progressive, tech-savvy Philadelphians are ready to meet with you. My office # at Philly Against Santorum is (215) 253-6579 and my email is ray@phillyagainstsantorum.org.

Call me any time. Seriously. I'm ready to meet some of the city's movers and shakers, and Bob Brady, Carol Campbell and Fumo never seem to call--so if you are serious about meeting young progressives (a term we'd really have to discuss more), I'm ready. I'll even volunteer to get a little group of us together.

Call anytime.

Edit: So, while I was serious in saying that I would meet with Dougherty, I didn't mean to imply that I or other young progressives were joining his camp. I have said consistently that the inner-workings of the city committee are bizarrely arcane and when people like Carol Campbel say they want to "fight bloggers on their own turf," it shows how out of touch this party is with the energy that drives Democratic voters in Philadelphia. If Dougherty were to offer a meeting, I would ask that everything said would be considered public and I would then blog about it. I am just as open to meeting with any other member of the party's leadership or other elected. The fact is, none of these folks seems to really want to talk to us or share power with young folks, and that's ok, cause I think we're doing fine on oour own.

I thought the most interesting part of the article was the speculation that Dougherty might run for Fumo's seat. I can't really imagine Dougherty going from top dog at his union to one of many in the state sentate. He's an administrator, a manager-- not really a legislator.

How did the meeting with Brady go today?

I am always willing to let a person talk. I say, if you want to embrace this youth movement in Philly politics, then actually do it. But, I have some reservations about his intentions.

To me, this really means he may be seeing the writing on the wall. It cannot be too much longer that this broke-down machine is viable in this city (I hope). At the very least, it's encouraging.
