RNC and DNC should unite 4 Gustav!
Once again, America finds itself in the middle of another major hurricane --Hurricane Gustav, or G-Stav if your from the streets. The GOP was forced to face the inconvenient truth that Gustav has now essentially sidelined any opportunity to bask in the shine of their national convention, this week. However, some may feel that Gustav is a welcomed distraction from the disaster that is McCain's pick for VP, Sarah Palin (I'm not so sure I share in this view). Or the disaster that would have been Bush or Cheyney headlining major speeches at the RNC. Now, partisan rancor aside, I do feel that McCain is right when he says that we should come together as "Americans" to deal with this natural disaster.
I do not want to hear Obama or the Democrats bashing Bush or the GOP at this time. None of us have control over these kinds of natural occurrences. Sure there will be a time to talk about this nation's propensity to prepare (or not) for natural disasters and our lack of an organized and credible response to Hurricane Katrina, but now is not the time. Let's save that for the debates. This is the time for each of us, on either side of the partisan divide, to unite as a nation of concerned citizens to pitch in what we can to help those states and persons hardest hit by Gustav. Specifically, I feel that the RNC and the DNC should hold a joint televised fundraiser, by this weekend, for Hurricane Gustav relief. If we can waste millions of dollars on silly campaign commercials which do more to mis-educate than to educate the American public, we can raise millions for such a worthy cause. Let's show each other and the world where I priorities rest.
I can dream can't I?
