Stream protection grows wider across PA - Report finds more and more towns requiring natural stream buffers on new developments

(Philadelphia) – More towns in Pennsylvania are protecting their streams and drinking water by requiring vegetated and tree-lined area along waterways. Clean Water Action released a report today that found more and more towns protecting buffers of natural vegetation in thirteen counties across the Commonwealth.

To see the full report, go to: http://www.cleanwateraction.org/publication/buffers-100-taking-positive-...

The report, “Buffers 100: Taking a positive trend statewide,” surveyed municipalities in more than a dozen counties across Pennsylvania and found that 192 municipalities had a riparian buffer ordinance and over 30% of those ordinances required 100 foot or greater buffers on at least some streams in the municipality. The report concluded that “because water does not respect municipal borders, the best way to achieve maximum protection for the state’s water resources is to adopt a statewide buffers regulation. Such a regulation would ensure that 100 feet of natural vegetation is protected alongside all streams and rivers in the state whenever new development occurs.”

“Buffers are good for Pennsylvania’s communities, environment and economy because they help to filter out pollution from runoff, prevent erosion and flooding, provide important habitat for aquatic life, and help reduce drinking water treatment costs,” said Bob Wendelgass, National Deputy Director for Clean Water Action. “This is why the Campaign for Clean Water has been pushing for a statewide buffer proposal to help protect water quality and all streams in the Commonwealth.”

Contaminated Creek Still causing health problems

YPP Are you going to collude with the cover up of this public health hazard and continue to put people's lives at risk by blocking me again?

Project at Sydney and Devon built on Headwaters Area of Wingohocking

Illegal dumping of solvents, oil waste , hydraulic fluid at site of spring is dug up adjacent to neighbors home. Ground is pounded and shifted by illegal demolition. PLans are submitted with no mention of stream. Nearby houses are shifted by pounding of illegal demolition and earth shifting of excavation.
Foundation and homes shifted. Ground underneath probably shifted as well. Much more water from contaminated stream going into at least two neighbors basements now, Natural flood plain paved over with impervious surface pushing swell of contaminated ground water toward original homes. Possible vapor intrusion problem. Cancer causing , respiratory illness. Neighbor in hospital several times, displaced for most of three years.

"Progressive NW" ignores the dangers to the neighborhood. Long term health hazards from contaminated ground water and toxic plumes well known.

Yesterday I got word from a neighbor, that the TOWNHOUSE project at Sydney and Devon is under bankruptcy and will soon belong to the bank.

The plan is to auction it off.

HALT STOP

Extensive Environmental Investigations need to be done! Both on and off site. The public needs to know the environmental health. They need to know what was in the contaminated soil that was trucked away. They need to know about contaminated groundwater. Tests for Vapor Intrusion need to be done.

Full public health and environmental health evaluations need to be done and made known to neighbors who have been living with this stuff. When it was dug up , I got the full blast , but the neighbors have been living with low levels of it for years. Toxic stuff in the soil is well researched to cause long term
developing health issues.

The city and local leadership have known about this and done nothing but let people get hurt and are continuing to do so. Why don't you go to Joseph Anastasi, the original polluters? I have their address.
They have legal responsibility along with the city that propelled this corruption and continues to do so.

Don't let the city which apparently doesn't have an honest brick in town, do the investigation.

East Mt Airy Neighbors, West Mt Airy Neighbors, NIM, Air Management, Council Woman Donna Reed Miller, Ward Leader Vernon Price, Mark Alan Hughes from Sustainability, Penn Environment, Zoning and Planning, Neighborhood Networks, Seth Williams and everyone else who has turned back on East Sydney Street and the harm suffered due to this project are given ONE MORE CHANCE to do the right thing and make sure proper transparent testing is done to protect public health and prevent more harm and life long suffering.

This is a link about part of what needs to be done.

This is a Quote from PDf on Vapor Intrusion

“When residents experience health symptoms, contractors should contact DHFS or the local health department for assistance. “

I went to them. I went to all of you and NONE of you did anything except try to cover it up and hide it from the public.

Of course the bank needs to know the history and this information as well.

NOW YOU CONTINUE TO IGNORE AND INTEND TO HARM FUTURE PEOPLE ON PURPOSE.
