URGENT! PLEASE READ!

In response to the success that Tom Knox is having with spending his bags of money, I heard through the grape-vine that certain City Council members are going to introduce a bill to suspend or repeal the current contribution limits. The motivation is unclear and my sources are reliable enough for this to raise my typically skeptical eye-brow.

Maybe you can explain to me (or even better one of the contributing council members) (1) why this would be necessary; (2) if you have heard the same thing; and (3) if you would support such a move.

In my typically very humble opinion--laws and representative democracy should be taken seriously. We should not go about changing the law whenever it suits us--remember, there was a reason why they were passed the first time, consensus or compromise. Politics may be a game to those who hold office, but it has serious results for everyone else--way beyond collecting a pay check.

I swear, I will vigilantly keep my eyes on bills introduced in council to this effect and do whatever I can as a citizen to ensure this does not occur. We must realize that this would be a travesty to the non-mayoral, council candidates--some of whom are our friends, a mockery of any efforts to curb the influences of outsiders and interests in our political process, and ultimately self-centered politics. Most candidates are not millionaires like Knox financing his own campaign entirely--in Philly he is an anomaly, so the benefits are really not there either. I am not the one to ring the fire-bell, but let's be really attentive to this and other developments.

Kenney

The rumors I have heard is that this is the work of... Jim Kenney.

Not good, not good at all.

Shocks my conscience

Councilman Kenney is someone I respect very much. I would hope he would do no such thing.

If true, I would suggest

that the Councilman change his username her at YPP.

To "persona non grata."

Let's be clear

What I have heard is that this change will only apply to the Mayor's race.

Why would Jim Kenney want to change the limits on Mayoral campaign contributions? Um, that seems kind of obvious.

Even still

It will apply to that race because that is where it is deemed needed--lawmaking shoud not be so arbitrary. It could apply anywhere, we do not know.

fax them to death

TOM KNOX WON'T WIN! TOM KNOX WON'T WIN!

For God's sake, POLITICIANS OF PHILADELPHIA, catch a clue. The man has no chance. he can buy name recognition but he can't buy credibility. Please. These numbers are a joke. Perot polled well there for a while, too, y'know?

I agree, all the more reason

I agree, all the more reason to believe this is reactionary and not good law making, which I think was your point.
