Why you should support Patrick Murphy

Murphy's Law: Do not root for the Giants
The U.S. House on Wednesday passed the following resolution: “Congratulating the National Football League champion New York Giants for winning Super Bowl XLII and completing one of the most remarkable postseason runs in professional sports history.”
The vote was 412-1. The one was Bucks County ’s Patrick Murphy, D-Pa.
“As a former 700-level security guard and lifelong Eagles fan, I couldn’t, in good conscience, vote for our rival Giants,” Murphy said yesterday. “The only thing worse would have been congratulating the Dallas Cowboys.”
A man, alone, standing up for what’s right.

Philadelphia Politicians and Their Football
Between Murphy's protest vote and Specter's investigation of the Patriots, football politics is clearly bipartisan (and popular). The only reason Lynn Swann couldn't make a leaping catch into the governor's office is that even he couldn't out-football Ed Rendell.
In time I imagine we will see a candidate for national political office campaigning primarily on Philadelphia-area sports: teams, stadiums, high-school sports, college basketball, Phillies pitching, the Rocky statue. And I guarantee that that candidate will 1) get more media coverage and 2) face a more informed electorate than anyone else running.
